Dressing the Part

When you do land that sought-after interview, keep in mind that the first impression you give the employer will say volumes. So when deciding what to wear, choose carefully. Although dress codes have changed considerably in the last few years, especially with the introduction of the business-casual office environment, it's always best to convey a conservative image with your clothes and appearance. Here are some general tips.

Men
  • Make sure your clothes are clean and pressed.
  • Avoid wearing cologne altogether, or wear a very light aftershave.
  • Don't overlook the little details that can make a big difference—neatly trimmed nails, shined shoes and dark socks.
Women
  • Make sure your clothes are clean and pressed.
  • Avoid wearing perfume, dangling jewelry or sandals.
  • Don't forget about the little details. Check the condition of your nylons, shoes and purse. Make sure your nails and hair are clean and neat.
